1 ct for sure
1 ct. bigger is better. When it comes to diamonds
Just take them to look at rings.
No it’s not about size it’s about the blend of all the Cs - Colour, Clarity and Carats. So a VSI1/2 carat could cost the same as a I 1 carat
All diamonds are graded by the GIA. You should be able to ask them what the specs of a given ring are (carat, cut, clarity, and color). I would not assume that Tiffany is only selling top-tier diamonds, especially at lower price points, where they’re just padding their margins by targeting people who want to pay more for the name.
It’s important to remember that diamonds are a commodity, like milk, and you can measure all of their characteristics. It doesn’t make sense to pay more for a brand name, since the underlying product can be the exact same. Nobody will know that it’s a Tiffany ring when it’s on the finger anyway, they’ll just know whether it’s a big diamond or not, and I don’t imagine that many women would prefer to have a small Tiffany diamond over a larger diamond from a local exchange or jeweler.
As mentioned, looking at ct weight alone is not sufficient when you’re shopping - you need to consider cut, clarity, and color. Generally you’re able to save a little by going with a lower clarity (though this depends on the shape), followed by a lower color.
If you’ve never bought a diamond, you might consider visiting a local diamond shop. A .5ct is likely smaller than you’d like.
