Most times yes but it isn't a rule. If you don't want share your offer letter, than you can simply say that I'm willing to stay at this salary or I walk out.

If you want to be retained in your current firm, then you can just share the salary breakup alone (hiding the firm name, your name, designation and everything else). Ethically it's not right but yeah it's not a crime.
