Funny stuff. I am an Associate working under a special counsel and we both are under a named partner for all cases but the partner actively works on one of our cases. I drafted a response email to a board’s email and my special counsel called saying its a mess and had to be redone. Shortly after, named partner emailed saying “good response, just change this one thing.” Lol..special counsel texts me “go with partner, good work.”
+1 for imposter syndrome today boys and girls! We celebrating.

I have worked with partners who sent me a paragraph-long email telling me when a certain provision doesn’t make sense and needs to be completely revised, forgetting it’s a provision they alone drafted a couple of weeks earlier.

Doesn’t mean the SC was wrong and the partner was right. I’ve learned not to take criticism too personally as long as it’s fair criticism. Makes you a better lawyer in the long run.

Because in my experience, past a certain point clients are not happy about paying for formatting when they want to be paying for substance. Especially if it’s not formatting that the client has requested, but rather internal “standards.” I’ve never yet had a client complain about a motion having improper indents and line spacing.

Today I was watching an old No Reservations episode, where Bourdain was talking about how the Khmer Rouge erased all prior history in Cambodia and made their regime start at Year Zero. There is an eerie parallel between this and what is going on with the Left today. What will happen to our country if everything is destroyed - first, statues; next, the history books; following this, people’s homes and livelihoods; and finally, death to people who don’t agree with the new regime.

When beginning a piece of literature, I first help the kids access the relevant culture. I have used web quests, but I have found that the kids researching their choice of topics and creating Slides containing information and pics results in more students participating. Recently they researched heraldry for the Medieval Era and reproduced either a family crest that they found or created their own personal crest. Anyone have other activities they use?

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)
