Hi Google - I am requesting guidance!
I am prepping for my interview specifically GCA and open ended questions. I struggle to tell if the outcome should be talking through your process/steps (maybe for a question like - how would you go about determining program complexity) vs a specific solution such as create x new product, for x market by x date based on my assumptions. Is the desired outcome something I can clarify with the interviewer?
Hi All, My Junior has decided to put paper, as she wanted to pursue Cdac course from Sept-22. She just informed that she signed a bond of 2 years and currently she has completed 1.7 years in HCL. What should she do now? Results is on 10-aug and she decided to put paper on that day itself (Earlier she told the same to Sr. manager) Kindly suggest if any action would be taken by HCL OR No experience letter would be shared with her. This is more just general advice to all attorneys having issues with staff not doing work correctly. Have someone else read through your instructions and see if they understand what you are trying to say. I’ve had some attorneys think they are being clear but then have it take multiple people reading the instructions to figure out what they wanted. Also use lists/bullet points instead of paragraphs.
That makes more sense! I have a couple attorneys like that. It’s unfortunate when inexperienced paralegals are hired for a job that requires experience and then aren’t adequately trained. It makes everyone’s lives harder and a lot more work for the attorney.

I would love to know the answer to this. I’m SUPER delicate with them and I find myself trying to find excuses to not give them assignments and just do it myself. I’m always worried they’ll commit some egregious mistakes that will fall back on me, which happens about once a month or so.

Are they actually incompetent, or just pretending to be so that you won’t assign them work? Gotta figure that out first and foremost
Definitely incompetent

I just dealt with this. I asked for advice here too and took it but it didn’t go over well when I asked the partner if there was someone else I could work with because I always had issues when I used this one. Be sure the partners won’t act protectively if you voice concerns about the paralegal’s level of competence. I was told that I needed to make more of an effort to explain what I needed and it was pretty clear that was the end of it. Ended up with my foot in my mouth even though the paralegal in question is actually awful.

They know not to just leave the fonts inconsistent and misnumber things, that isn’t a failure of communication or delegation it’s either laziness or deliberate
We should remember staff are not lawyers. A lot of them didn’t even finish college. It’s the lawyers job to create a team environment with their staff and train them on whatever procedures you’d like followed. Give the paralegal the resources she/he needs to succeed. If the firm is going to hire inexperienced staff, then it’s up to everyone in the firm to train them
If you’re the only one having a problem with her. Then the problem is you. Giving good directions is hard. When someone goes wrong, ask where the breakdown was and then try to anticipate that type of problem next time. Something as simple as picking up the phone and doing an example with then will help a lot.
I have a paralegal I work with like this. Shes been working somehow as a paralegal for more than 30 years. She is truly the worst and as much as I like her as a person I avoid using her if at all possible and if I have to, I make a conscious effort to check her work. I’ve never complained to the partners because at the end of the day she does her job and I don’t want to be the reason she gets fired. Try to work around this paralegal if you can.
I’m sorry you’re going through that. We’re supposed to help you guys, not hinder you. And I’m surprised by all the “pampering the para” advice that is being given here.

It’s gotta be a fine line or else you’re just letting them train the lawyers lol
Incompetent how?
Use a bullet point list to separate out each detail. If you type sentences into a narrative paragraph, people will think they got the gist and work from memory, instead of trying to check each specific sentence off the list.
If they miss a LOT of details, highlight the bullets they missed and re-send the email. It’s a shitty thing to do, so I would reserve this for someone who’s truly sloppy, like if they miss half of your bullet points or worse. I find that the average paralegal/secretary misses a few details for every task. I’ve seen some “gems” who are perfect every time but that’s less common.
