(going to cross post this so sorry if you see it multiple times)

My boss has expressed dissatisfaction with my prioritization and ability meeting deadlines. I have been with the firm less than a year, and had a rough start with subpar training on firm programs, which really held me back until I sought additional training in October. I also joined the firm having worked under the Queen of micromanaging for 10 years. How can I address my boss' concerns without shirking responsibility or blaming?

I think the only way to address it without shirking responsibility or blaming is to acknowledge you messed up, promise to do better, and ask for tips on how to better prioritize.

Agreeex, except that I think you don’t have to take all responsibility. I’ve learned that there is a way of presenting something as fact by way of explanation, while not looking like you’re passing the buck. For example: I really appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I agree that I’ve been more delayed than I would like. I don’t feel like I understood the firms programs from my training and wish I had reached out sooner. I’m implementing xyz plan (or can you recommend plan) to get me back on track.

As an associate who was in a similar situation years back, coming from micromanagement, I would encourage you to find ways to make connection and speak up in the firm. It’s a mind shift to establish checkins based on your own accountability when you’ve been micromanaged for years. Most people want information and updates - especially if they’re genuinely invested in your growth - as much as they care about the deadline.

Having been in Big Law for a significant portion of my career, I can understand that this would be an easy assumption to make.

However, I am confident that my employer is sincere in their investment in me and that this is a genuine opportunity to give me time to improve. I'm not naive, I know what it would be under different leadership. I've seen how this leadership operates, though, and was sincerely looking for help in how to come up with a response and plan.

I’m a third year associate wanting to leave my second law firm. My first two years of practice I was at a small firm and left to a mid-size firm to practice insurance defense. I have enjoyed the practice but not the firm. The firm’s culture is toxic. The firm has had 7 attorneys leave in the last year. Is it wrong for me to wanting to leave? Will i give the impression of being a job hopper? Does it really matter?

Hello fellow desi consultants,
I am currently working for Deloitte USA. I got a transfer offer to Deloitte Canada office. I have 2.5 years work experience and a bachelors degree. When i was calculating my CSR score for express entry it came to be around 418, assuming I’ll score the highest band in IELTS. Does anyone know if Deloitte Canada does LMIA for transfer hires like me? I am not sure if having a job offer helps unless the company files for LMIA.
