Has anyone done multiple rounds of IVF while doing this job (2000 billable expectations)? How did you handle the days off work, and deal with the physical and psychological effects? I didn’t want to tell people at work I’m doing multiple rounds of IVF as it’s devastating enough without people asking me how it’s going. But worried work will start thinking I have health issues/am unreliable.

Yes I did 3 rounds of IVF (1 followed by a baby then 2/3 back to back followed by a 2nd baby). It didn’t really impact work because I got the earliest available monitoring appointments, made sure I always had my computer in case there was a delay, and then just took 1 day for each retrieval and 1 day for each transfer (6 days total over the course of a few years). I told the people I worked with that I would be out on those days for a medical procedure. Good luck!

I did multiple rounds of IUI and then one round of IVF. Similar to Partner 1, the impact on work didn’t seem that bad because the monitoring appointments are so early in the morning.

I think this also really dependent on your relationships with the people you work with, but I did tell a few people, and from a psychological perspective, that helped a lot. My legal assistant knew the most, my friend who is the same level as me (who also is going through IVF now) knew a lot, and then the partner I did the most work for was on a need to know basis. I am terrible at keeping anything a secret, so that was a big weight off of my shoulders. Again, this is probably very specific to your own personal situation, but it helped me a lot.

Good luck to you!

Yes. My hours dropped that year, I didn’t get my bonus, and eventually took some mental health time off. It was really hard at the time, but I’m glad I did IVF and prioritized my family. Pregnant now with an embryo from 5 years ago!

I just finished 7 months of fertility treatments (IUI and IVF). I’m now 10 weeks pregnant. I had consistently billed over 2000 hours in every year prior to fertility treatments. I felt the impact in a big way. I was used to being a high performer, always on, and responsive at all hours. When I started fertility treatments that changed. I was burnt out emotionally and physically felt the toll of the medications and procedures. I told one partner I am very close with and she was an incredible support. I touched base with her when needed and I got the sense she was protecting me if anyone was asking questions about my hours or being out of the office. If you have a close relationship with one of the partners, I would recommend bringing someone in.

The client is to ‘pay’ me in art plus a retainer reduced by over 60% of my standard rate (because of the painting.
Art=1 piece at the end of the contract, but only if I complete the entire contract. IF I don’t stay on/company doesn’t get off the ground or relationship doesn’t work out, he can sever the contract. He is difficult & volatile and has yet to give me a contract 1 month in. Have I agreed to a bad deal? help
