Here’s one way you know a business idea is good.
Waitlist…
Why Use Waitlists
1. Validates Demand Early
• If people are willing to give you their email before the product is even live, it’s a signal they want the solution.
• Helps founders test positioning, messaging, and value prop before launch.
2. Builds Hype + FOMO
• A well-marketed waitlist (with invites, referrals, or “early access”) can create momentum and scarcity.
• Think of Superhuman, Clubhouse, even Threads to some extent—waitlists give the illusion that “this is something special.”
3. Creates a Launchpad
• A waitlist gives you an audience to launch to.
• Without one, you’re relying entirely on organic growth or paid ads—and that’s expensive.
4. Data Collection
• Waitlists tell you who your early users are.
• You can segment by role, interest, pain point, and tailor onboarding later.
Why Didn’t Diem Do It?
A few guesses:
• They Might’ve Prioritized Speed Over Strategy
“Let’s get it out now and iterate later”
A common approach—but risky for consumer apps.
• They Underestimated Their Own Niche
They didn’t realize how many people might have signed up if framed properly (i.e. “finally, a safe search alternative just for women”).
• They Didn’t Have Clear Positioning at First
If you’re not sure how to pitch the product yet, a waitlist can feel premature.
• They’re Targeting Virality, Not Exclusivity
Maybe they’re aiming for mass adoption, not curated access. That works for some models, but community-based products often benefit from intentional growth.
The Missed Opportunity
Even a simple waitlist would have:
• Given them a pool of excited beta users
• Created a sense of exclusivity for early adopters
• Helped them identify advocates and test product-market resonance

This looks AI generated tbh
What makes it special/different because it’s just for women?

That's pretty interesting, thanks for sharing!
Half of the world’s internet users are female so it definitely has a huuuuge audience, but in my opinion, the bigger point is that there is a huge behavior shift towards seeking social, community-driven answers rather than traditional search results... so these kinds of search engines are definitely going to fo well. At least, those are my thoughts.

Interesting point

What makes it exclusively for women?
I think it’s a great app idea, but I’m skeptical of any startup that relies on a sub feature of/well prompted LLM.
I made a bunch of Custom GPTs as soon as I was able with 3.5, but by 4.0 I got nearly as good performance via a good prompt and dialogue.
A community aspect could be interesting.
