Job-Hunting reach-out to VC from previous fundraising effort for own startup
I have e-mail archive from 1y ago of my reach-out to 65 VCs in London: we had video calls, they might remember me still, who knows.
I want to send a reply/forward message to the same e-mail thread from abc@gmail.com, saying that I am looking for roles within their VC firm. Is that a good idea?
Or shall I just start new email thread and mention how I know them?
Any body got retention offer from LTI?

Are you getting feedback that you’re inefficient or did you just decide that? Maybe it takes 3-5 hours and you are doing just fine.
Are you block billing? If you’re getting that critique but turning in work on time the partner is probably giving that instruction based on what the client is willing to pay for on the bill. Make sure you are not block billing and break up your entries into smaller bites that won’t look like you’re spending too much time on one task

Confidence comes over time with experience. Be assertive and ask questions. Your job is to generate revenue by billing hours while learning. Be inquisitive and enjoy the process.
I'm a 2d year associate, too, and I find myself billing way more than part er estimates. But thing is, I don't think partners really know how long it should take for me to research something because they evidently don't know the answer. So I don't sweat how long it takes me to get an answer. End of the day, I'm happy if I can produce a quality answer the partner can use regardless of how long it took.
Honestly, I also always have the sense that
I’m taking *way* too long to bill stuff, but then I look at our tracker for how much of my time actually gets billed out and it’s like 90%. I wouldn’t worry about it unless someone asks.

I tend to take around 3-5 hours for general research and at least 6 hours for more complex issues. Try to see if all the hours are getting billed to the client. If yes, there is no issue imo.
Welcome to law practice. Get comfy.
That was glib but I meant only that I think this is a universal experience for all young associates, myself included (I’m 5 years in and still feel this way on assignments)
Trust your research! Some issues require hours of learning the material the first time around. Efficiency comes with comfort and practice.
This is me on every research assignment 🙃
I’m a 3rd year. Partner asked me to conduct research for a complete looser of a motion I will be drafting and arguing. I’ve spent about 6 hours trying to come up with a strategy and just requested a meeting with the partner to touch base on where i am at.
My advice is to be open and honest and don’t suffer in silence. It takes a LONG time to be confident in your work in this field so cut yourself some slack.
I always feel like I’m going too slow with my research…but I’m a first year in an area of practice that I barely considered in law school (personal injury). I do like what I’m doing but there’s so many nuances and factors and inferences that I’m still learning so much. Even though I feel like I’m super slow, my partners are always impressed with how fast I can find an answer - so I think it’s all relative.
I took advanced legal research my last semester and would definitely recommend getting comfortable with using booleans, notes of decisions, and secondary sources. This will definitely speed up the process.
