Yes. I found out no one is only one race. I want to the in-depth one that chases history. I also found out my Aunt does the studies of DNA genetics. Also found some cousins on my dad’s side. Lots took the test as well. I have allot of Panamanian in my genetics. I want to go visit,
I did, and thought it was interesting! When I first took my test (8ish years ago), 23 and Me didn’t have a lot of Black people on their platform. The data I initially received was very limited: it said that I was 80% West African, 17% European, and 3% “other.” They may as well have just told me that I was a Black American, lol.
As time has gone by, my results have gotten more specific. I now know that I am mostly Nigerian, but also Ghanaian, Sudanese, and Ethiopian.
I also unraveled a family scandal through the discovery of a previously unknown family member showing up in my DNA relatives. I was honestly happy to blow it up and welcome this person into the family, but just know you may uncover some *uncomfortable* truths when you do a DNA test.
Rising Star
I have and I was surprised. My mom is Jamaican and I found out that I have a good percentage of south Asian/ Indian DNA.
Yep I took one recently because I was really curious. Just the regular ancestry.com one. I got to see that I have 30% of my husband’s background Benin/Ivory Coast which was pretty cool to know. Surprisingly discover was Swedish. I’m of Haitian descent so idk where that Swedish mix came from although I have an idea lol. Ngl I cried a little at my small 5% white side because I know what the history entails.
