Have you ever been penalised for being too good at your job? E.g, has a superior been threatened by your ability to the job well and then punished you for it? I once found a way to make part of our team's work a lot quicker and more efficient. Instead my manager supporting my idea, they started getting picked apart over little things and I was left out of conversations. I just don’t understand it.

I haven't been "directly" punished, but I've been given more responsibilities and tasks because I did a great job. It seemed that the reward for doing a great job was to be given additional jobs to fo without more pay.

Ah, that’s a classic. And after you do all that work, you never get as much as a “thank you” and you’re certainly not safe from redundancies.

Yes. I got set up to fail and I was demoted. And now I just watch everything fall apart because I still couldn’t be replaced, hope the ego trip was worth it. I got asked to do my former duties without extra pay but I shut it down pretty quickly. It’s nice taking a break from the stress though, currently planning my exit.

Ahhh silent quitting..

I have been "penalized" for doing my job well by being passed over for higher paying positions because I was "too valuable in my current position". I know this for a fact due to an HR representative quitting. I ran into them shortly after and they told me.

That’s so frustrating! Just shows sometimes being good at your job doesn’t get you anywhere. You have to be just good enough, and make sure you make good relationships and connections.

I'm glad the subject came up every job I have worked in the last 4 companies i'm always told that Im good at my job. So every time here's what happens i'm always the last person on the job to get moved to another project , but always the first to get let go because of funding here I am again without a job and I am sick of it

Thank you a words of encouragement do keep me going. I appreciate you.

Not directly but I had a former coworker who used me as a scapegoat every time she could.

Oh really? In what way? She’d blame you for stuff she got wrong?

When management needed someone to be a leasing between departments, I got the job. After they "restructured", I lost that role and was put in an adjacent one. But management still needed the duties of my former role performed.
So they kept me doing those while being in another department. The reward was that I "might" be returned to my original position.
I persisted in my efforts because I believed them the few times they dangled the possibility in front of me. Last month, after 3 years of "maybe, we'll see" I walked away from a 7 year job with good coworkers because - the way it felt - I was kept from advancements so I could continue to handle the vacant role without compensation.

One time I was a bus driver somewhere around 2009 my boss call me and ask me to slow down and do exactly what they ask you to do. Do not do more because you make your friend look bed . Secondly when I say good morning to some of the coworkers, they tell me F you it’s not your F business. And guess what they went to the Manager and complain about it. I say good morning to him and he doesn’t want me to see anything , my manager shake off his head and he ripped off the paper complain, and he tell me Sheriff , keep the good job ,
And I work one time at the USPS man this place is toxic. You feel like everyone hit you . Everyone didn’t like you. They will back bite ,the right complaints , name it. It’s not only me. I have a few driver have the same complaint and scanner like you work with zombie , life, dead people , everybody watching you and you cannot have eye contact with anyone

Dude okay

Absolutely.

I found myself being bullied behind closed doors with no backup. Did not include me in things I was supposed to be part of, purposely left me out of conversations, meetings and opportunities. Other departments were super supportive and saw my work ethic. The same day I received recognition for employee of the month, it was also the same day the boss put me on a PIP. To the boss…. The nomination was a “popularity contest” and I was not deserving of any employee recognition. Instead, I was constantly criticized and my character was attacked when it was just them and I.

To receive employee of the month and a pip on the same day is absolutely wild!! Sounds like a toxic place, I hope you’re not still there?

Yep, happened a few times. Working at Optum I was top performer month after month. When I would go to interview for promotion I “wasn’t there yet”.

I kept my head down, did good work, didn’t get on anyone bad side, spoke when spoken to, and didn’t cause any drama or stir up anything.

Then one of the last straws was they promoted someone who was only in the company for 3 months. Wasn’t even there for 1 year (the policy stated you have to be there 1 year before getting promoted. When I got the rejection and saw that he got promoted. I left and never looked back.
