I worked for a company that was acquired and I recall there was some bad blood over that. My pay didn't change, but there were some roles that, as I understood it, had to be aligned. Our big problem with regards to cost cutting wasn't that, it was the issue of layoffs, which came in a few waves.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Mergers often create uncertainty, and it’s unsettling. My organisation is about to merge, and we’re hearing about potential salary cuts as well as new structure.
I would get out asap if my company were merging or being acquired. I went through it once, and that was enough.

I have not been involved but have seen this happening to a friend. She worked in public sector. It's a very complicated process, depending what the goal is for the companies. It's usually best to have a union involved.

Indeed! That's one of the worrying part about years of service as you may loose them. It dependent how far unions can manage to push it. In public sector usually TUPE applies which helps a little bit.

I don’t think I would stay if I was part of a company merging with another. Financially it would get very tricky and set up folks for an untenable office politics situation on what the pay scales should be and who calls the shots

I agree that opting out of a merger can often be the best choice, given the complexities and unpredictability involved.
