Genuinely curious if Bill Nye encouraged anyone's science career?

I wouldn't go as far as to attribute my ENTIRE career to Bill Nye, but I definitely enjoyed watching his show as a kid which helped nurture my interest in science. He was one of the many science teachers I had that made the subject engaging.

I personally would not say that it encouraged my entire career, but I am grateful for your efforts to bring people into the scientific community, we should always be grateful to educators.

I graduated in May of 22. I transitioned from being an intern to being a full time counselor, now for 6 months. I feel like I might be catching my agency at a tough time, but as an employee it doesn’t seem to be trying anything to keep me here besides the occasional ‘motivational’ posts from the administrative team. I felt like I was lowballed during my offer, and my negotiation salary was denied since this is technically my first “professional” job. Pt 2 in comments:

When i got into cyber security i was extremely enthusiastic about it. I was fascinated by how a simple string on hexadecimal values can give you remote access to any machine, so i learned many things like exploits development, reverse engineering and malware analysis. During my tenure of 6 years i used IDA just once.

In my opinion Indian cyber security, especially SOC is just like another job, we don't have a creative culture in cybersec domain. That's heart breaking.....

Will be starting my first in-house role in the next few months. Coming from ~10 years at a boutique firm doing general counsel type work for government clients. Will be transitioning into the energy sector.

Does anyone have any tips for things that I could do between now and my actual start that would be helpful to hit the ground running? Any suggestions for things specific to the energy sector and/or in-house life generally would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Benefits of working as counsel (independent contractor) vs associate (employee)? My husband is a mid level who’s was brought on to a small firm as counsel with the promise of becoming a full time employee if/when the firm landed a big account. They just landed the big account. He’s currently earning the same billing 20 hours a week as what he’d make as a salaried associate. Seems like maybe it’s worth staying an IC… but no benefits like PTO or a regular salary. Are there other downsides to IC?
