I would first try to find a way to go back to what I was doing before. Demotion is an ugly word, but if you know it is not for you, it’s better to be in a position where you can do your best work. At least, that is how I’d frame the talk. You want to do your best for the company, and leadership isn’t where you will thrive.
I feel that way now, coming from being a Tech to supervisor, i was promoted in Dec and over someone who had been there for years before me because of his bad attitude. I've been having to deal with him as his supervisor and it's over bearing at times because he let his work ethic go to crap-The rest of team is great but i was thinking of going back, so i completely understand how you feel.
