Have you worked in a place where being busy mattered more than doing good work? How would you deal with this?

I have often seen that people who look busy are perceived more highly than people that are actually busy, I call it busy looking busy. I don’t agree with it but it makes sense, the ones walking quickly around the office with a pile of papers and a notebook are seen going from place to place even if they aren’t doing anything vs the ones buried at their desk are completely invisible. So get up and rush about periodically :)

Yes, been there seen it

If that is the playbook then we have to play by that rule

However often managers know who is really busy and who is not

The company I work for is exactly this. Play the long game and look busy, collect paychecks, and live your life.

Noo not yet at least

Yep, at my old job some higher up people loved to make themselves look busy when realistically they were doing nothing

Hi - I am having to move from the US to London due to Visa issues. Exploring relevant strategy consulting roles @ MBB / T2s following 3Y of management consulting focused on operations @ a boutique firm in NYC. What is the best way to get started with this ? Any good recruiters you would recommend ? Or referrals? Happy to share my profile. PS - I have UK work auth so won’t require sponsorship.

My husband is going through the interview process at Vanguard for an entry level software engineering role. He just graduated bootcamp but had been self studying for years as well. He's definitely junior level. What kinds of questions should he expect in his technical interview?

I am a contract employee that was just brought on a month ago. I have done well with onboarding and learning their tech. I have now been asked to design an architecture for an upcoming project, and document it all. Nothing at this company has been well documented before. I have a feeling they just planning to use my previous experience and then let me go since my pay is high. Is there a way I can safeguard against this?

One year this week. Grateful for lots, including this bowl.

Working as CAL Manager with Accenture S&C India. Offered ~GBP 76.5K (fixed plus flexi) at Manager Grade by Deloitte London.

Prior to Accenture, I have already served as S&O Manager with Deloitte India for ~1.5 yrs - so this would be my second stint with Deloitte as Manager "again".

2 questions:
1. Should I ask for Senior Mgr (AD) grade - to which they have already said NO
2. Is GBP 76.5K sitting at the lower end of M grade in Deloitte UK? What should be a good expectation for the role

Truly grateful for any insight.
