I'd also suggest having the area treated for insects shortly before the ceremony. Nothing like guests swatting at bugs and being bitten while you're trying to do your nuptials. 😉
We had candles lit to ward of mosquitos and had a floorboard put in for the dance floor so that everyone could dance regardless of their shoes and if it rained the night before. When is your wedding?
October in NY!
Couples commonly believe that private garden weddings are less expensive than renting out a traditional location. In most circumstances, it's more expensive since you are essentially erecting a venue. Tents, carpeting, dance floors, lighting, rentals, luxury bathrooms, generators, and so on are all expensive.
Insects is a biggie! also making sure your dancefloor is up to the task! We also needed to be really careful about lighting/timing photos etc to make sure we got good lighting!
THIS. The bugs can and will eat you alive.
Don't wear a white pair. Any dark colors would be fine. Mine looked like a chocolate after the event. Lol
Consider hiring a valet service to keep your neighbors pleased by not clogging up your street. Also, d ecide whether you want people passing by your house to use the bathroom. Otherwise, temporary restrooms are essential.
I recommend that you make sure you have adequate parking. I see a lot of tiny venues that don't have enough parking to accommodate all of the wedding guests, which can be quite frustrating.
Some rental businesses provide measuring consultations, where they visit to your place and measure for the best-sized tent and amount of tables you will need depending on your projected guest count. The wedding day will run more smoothly if you structure the space you have with the right rentals for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.
Spend time on your site monitoring where the sun moves during the day and plan to design your outside ceremony venue according to the sunlight. Couples typically select a ceremony start time between 4-5:30 p.m., so be aware of where the sun will be at certain times of day throughout the year and make a note of it.
