Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

Wait around at all hours to dutifully turn comments on slideware from folks higher up in the food chain.
Now you know.

This is the only right/correct answer.
The issue is that your Associate will give you comments on something at 11pm and expect it to be ready in the morning.
A lot of that 80 hours is sit-around waiting, especially after 6pm.
When people say they work 80 hours, they are just talking about being on-call. That doesn't mean they were cranking the full 80 hours. Don't get me wrong, there are certain weeks where those 80 hours are truly 80 hours worked but that is rare.
Easily be cranking 80 straight hours. I can tell you what does it at Mck, I’m sure it’s the same.
Take a look at your to do list. See those items from Monday that are scoped for Thursday and Friday? Well, make everything due at 7a Tuesday instead, rinse and repeat each day of the week. There’s no “turn this around in 3 or 4 days.” Everything is due same day. If you don’t, you’ll get 1) a smaller bonus, 2) slower progression, or 3) both. No one is shy about the repercussions and it only takes one bad feedback to tank you.
I used to think the 80-hour thing was hyperbole or sitting around til I came to McK. It’s literally grinding 8a-1a Mon-Thu at McK, having to squeeze in bio breaks, and anxiety about 30 min. for dinner. Rumor is IB steps it up by pushing the start time to 7a and including most weekends.
99% of it, yes
At the analyst level 80 hrs are pretty routine and not uncommon to see 100+. There are a lot of things that need to be done to close a transaction and in most cases you will be on multiple live deals. Competitive processes with a lot of buyers will generate a lot more work than a negotiated process, quality of data available from the seller also makes a difference in making your life miserable, etc.
