Sorry I kind of created this bowl and then disappeared - I was new to my Head of Community role and definitely underestimated how much work was going to go into it.

That being said - would love to bounce ideas off of eachother for what we thing this channel could really become.

Would love for this to become a place where we feel like we can have conversations about the hard parts of running a community, as much as we talk about the fun parts.

I wanted to create this bowl because as someone new to the role of “Head of Community” I’m realizing that it’s a lot different than sales, marketing, or anything else I’ve been involved with before.

I figured if I felt like that, there had to be other community managers out there… kind of ironically… craving a sense of community.

How much structure, is too much structure for an event?

In short, any tips on how to avoid a company event feeling like “mandatory fun”?

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who is the Head of Community for a rapidly growing work-from-home social networking app.

We ended up on the subject of when we each first thought “being a community leader is the job for me”

When we both looked back, each of us had lots of examples in our pasts of leading communities. From High School Clubs to “being the dorm everyone always came to, to study”
