I am about to transition from being a junior partner at a large law firm (my practice has focused on private equity M&A) to Deputy General Counsel at a large-ish Pubco. I am already giving myself a crash course in public securities and corporate governance from my firm’s training materials and my cap markets partners, but I also wanted to poll the audience for other suggestions on how to become as prepared as possible for my new role please. If I was a second or third choice candidate for a role, and ultimately got an offer, is it fair game to inquire with the recruiter as to why the initial candidates declined? And should this fact weigh into my decision process?

Those who have returned to a law firm from being in-house - what was your experience like? If you hated a firm the first time, was it better the second time around? I swore I’d never go back, but seeing the newest round of BigLaw raises and salary increases I am genuinely considering it - I’m getting married and planning for kids shortly, and would like to buy a home in our HCOL city, and while I’m not starving on my in-house salary and am fairly frugal, I don’t feel like we have much cushion.

Best robo advisors for new investors?

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.

I am looking for a new job at the end of a long career. I have excellent experience in IP and Supply Chain Management. I've been fortunate to be in a high-paying position in the Los Angeles area and I rarely see comparable positions posted. The comparable positions at my company are filled by one of the big executive search firms. Any recommendations for finding the rare executive-level legal positions or for landing on the radar of the big executive search firms would be much appreciated!
