Do you ever regret your career choice? I’m beginning to realize I may not have wanted to be a mechanical engineer after all. What other career options are there for me with my current degree?

How did you realize that you don't want to continue? What are your preferences? What do you like to do?

Sort of common, it's always a choice to become a professor if you're willing to do a little more studying

I don't regret my career, but a great piece of advice I can give you is to try to shape your career and merge it with programming, there is always a space for a programmer with experience in mechanics.

It is difficult to know because I don't know what sector of mechanical engineering you work in, you can dedicate yourself from machine maintenance to seeking to enter racing teams, even in carting, mechanical engineers in that sector are highly sought after.

Thankfully I still love my job, though a lot of that has to do with the company I work for. Are you sure it's the industry itself and not your specific job?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

Hi Everyone,
I am currently working in technical support in cloud at TCS for 1.4 years. The work is very rudimentary and almost no skill is required for it.
I want to switch to BA role and I have done few certifications, learnt Tableau, Excel and MySQL but I am still not getting interviews.
Any suggestions on what should I do?

I currently do securities ops/accounting but want to move into a more client facing role. One of our marketing/client service associates got a promotion, so I’m guessing she’ll be doing higher level work, which may leave a gap for some of the work she used to do. How would I go about asking if I can work on that team in some capacity but still do my current role? I’ve only been there 1 yr and I know my current manager also has some higher level items in securities ops he wants me to do as well.

I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. I’ve had a lot of success making the idiots I’ve worked for wealthy, but I’m still waiting for a moment where I enjoy what I’m doing. I feel stuck working in dysfunctional plaintiff firms/cultures. I hate this profession/career more and more each year. Has anybody been successful breaking off on their own in recent years? Advice?

Hello, I’m an LMSW in Michigan. I have 15 years of experience in the field as a clinician, supervisor, and an administrator. I am feeling burnt out and unsure of my future. I have worked mainly in the Community Mental Health and the VA Health systems, hence my fatigue. I’ve flirted with private practice work in the past, but my spouse has been worried about not having affordable healthcare and benefits that each system provides. Is it worth the jump? Am I overthinking things?

What is the most useful technical or soft skills for any mechanical engineer to have where you work? I’m curious to know what really matters for everyone and what makes a big impact on the team and business.

Specifics if you can; CAD tools, simulation, CAD speed or proficiency, industry or standards knowledge, GD&T, certifications, Microsoft Excel, presentation skills, technical writing, project management, self organization, great communication, teaching ability, relationship building, etc.
