I paid $0. My wife lit an incense stick and we have been doing okay. We saved that money towards ordering takeout while the movers were bringing stuff home and things were being set up.

Yes the rates are what they are unfortunately, if it makes you feel better think of it as supporting a priest who has devoted their life to reading our scriptures and without money it couldn't continue. Not saying it's entirely right but something to make you feel justified in monetarily helping our Dharma live on as a Hindu!
I did mine from the isckon Temple in Potomac, MD it was $200, didn't have to bring any samagri and I gave him an additional $151. This was 2019 - I assume with inflation it's higher now.
Finally, if you are so inclined - the grah pavesh paddhyati is available on YouTube. You can look up the drik Panchang for a good date and time and basically just do it yourself. Remember the "bhav" (intention) matters - our Gods are very forgiving.
A grah Pravesh is a critical step in establishing a dharmic household and ensuring physical, mental, spiritual and energetic peace, prosperity and growth where you and your family will live.
And congrats on the milestone!

So you spent 6 or 7 figures on the house, have enough belief in the scriptures that you want to perform a graha pravesh, yet want to find a way to stiff the pujari over a few $? You might be missing the point.
I don’t have any superior claim on Hindu virtue whatsoever; just astounded that you would try to be cheap on a matter that seems to be very important to you. Sounds like the YouTube option suggested might be best in your case.
For what it’s worth, I too came to the US as a broke student. I wouldn’t use that as a reason to shortchange something important to me, but everyone is different so you do you.
I paid 450 for greh parvesh puja yesteady in CA plus pooja items. I’ll let you decide.
Normal
so you bought a quarter million $$ house & giving deep thoughts on 200 ofd $$ for priests ? You are the man...
Presumptuous to assume my gender
I guess it’s nominal - paid $300 for temple and same amount as dakshna for priest, plus puja items back in 2019 in Atlanta. Congrats for the house.
We have been given a quote of $500, plus travel costs and samagiri in NJ! I had a sticker shock as well but asking around it was pretty average in NJ
Yup I think it’s the sticker shock part! I came here as a broke student and lived in apartments… jsut learning now to adult 😅
Standard / nominal
We paid $600 to the preist. Its a 2 day event. Day 1 gruha pravesham, pooja, homam etc. day 2 satyanarayana vratam.. each day, its like 2-3 hours each.
An electrician, plumber charge $100/hr these days. To me, this is totally fair price..
You have a choice
You can find a priest outside too
