Find one designer you like by visiting a store, then build from that. Eileen Fisher, Ann Taylor, Dior, etc. Spend money on foundational pieces. Don’t be afraid to ask an expert at Nordstrom etc.
My friend and I went to Nordstrom when she needed a new pair of work pants, and the woman who worked there was so helpful.
She pointed out brands that we may not have considered, and knew which pants were the ones that worked for everyone.
Having worked in retail a bit during college, for some reason there are certain items of clothing that work for just about every body type. I knew if I handed it to someone and brought it to the dressing room, they were going to buy it. It's impossible to figure out what these are online, but the salespeople literally just know.
Check out quince, they have nice quality pants that don’t break the bank.
Also look into straight leg trousers that’ll give you polished look.
Love quince! Great return policy too!
I follow some people in socmed for inspo. For example, mrscasual and jeanwang from insta.

This or just Pinterest.
I highly recommend Trendsend by Evereve and whatever the Nordstrom version is (can’t remember). It’s persona styling…
