I'm of the mindset that you're not going to be a "teacher" to 3-year-olds. You can sing songs and play games with them, teach basic behavior, maybe do some "Sesame Street" type letters and numbers stuff, but kids at that age aren't going to respond to a teacher like school-age kids might. You're a caregiver to them. Don't expect to do more than what a parent would do with them.
I don't know if this bowl is still active. But I am a new 3 year old "teacher". I am enrolled through my employer in a state funded program (Texas School Ready) to work with my students on preparing for school. I feel like the expectations are entirely unreasonable for where my students are cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally. They are 3 years old for crying out loud (literally crying; them and me). There is a rigorous schedule and curriculum. I have been in this classroom with these same kids for about 3 months now. And they still can't handle the transition of me picking up their empty snack/meal plates, sitting for a 5 minute circle time, or lining up to go to the restroom or outside. Its absolute anarchy in there!!! I have multiple students that need 1 on 1 assistance, but parents won't have them evaluated for services through the public school. The TSR program ALSO wants me to administer assessments for the kids on a laptop. We are currently in the 1st phase. Just trying to get a baseline. But I can't even complete those because when I am assesing one child, the rest start fighting, throwing, biting, yelling, and jumping off furniture. Is this a "run girl" situation??? Or am I doing something wrong??
