Hi All! How long do you have to be employed at your firm before being eligible for maternity benefits? Wanted to see if there is some ‘market practice’, especially in BigLaw. I’m 11 weeks pregnant and possibly considering lateraling, but obviously would make sure I’d be eligible to go on mat leave. Thank you!

Regardless of the official policy, you can negotiate to e.g. have your start date deemed one year prior for purposes of eligibility re firm leave. Especially if you're already pregnant when interviewing and negotiating an offer, it is totally normal.

I’m in the same position (but more pregnant, posted about it here the other day) and yes my understanding is that it’s something you negotiate during the offer phase and get confirmed in writing before you start. And that getting full leave is not uncommon at all. Good luck!

RS has a six month waiting period, but I negotiated full leave with my offer a couple years ago. I would have been just under the six month mark.

I will add that I had been at the firm for two years before going out on leave so I didn’t need to negotiate anything, not sure what that would have looked like at my particular firm.
