In a law setting, depending on the type of law that is practiced, attorneys become highly annoyed and take it out on everyone around them. You must understand that a lot of times, clients do not do what is asked of them, and it can and does jeopardize their case. Now... is it right? No. You can absolutely ask that if your attorney feels like yelling, to direct it elsewhere. As a matter of fact, they might even have higher respect for you if you don't allow anyone to "beat up" on you. Also, understand that timelines are finite. The Court does not care what is happening in everyone's lives. The paperwork is due when it's due. It's mandated by your state statutes. Do not drop the ball. Dropping the ball in law easily translates to messing up someone's case. Working in the legal community can be very fulfilling. You can really help people. Sometimes, as an admin, just listening to clients and attorneys can make you invaluable. You don't need to do much more than listen...you'll figure out when those times are appropriate.
Pro tip (LOL) Keep snacks at your desk the attorney/s you support like. They tend not to eat. I can't tell you how often hangry is an actual issue.
You'll do great!!
The snacks can really be a morale booster! Think of the Betty White commercial with the Snickers.

It could be red flags, so if it was me I would start looking. Best case scenario, you don't need the safety net and everything is fine. Worst case scenario, it is terrible and toxic but you're also prepared.
When I see things like personal tasks possibly being requested, if it's not part of the job duties I set very firm boundaries and will absolutely not do it. You do something personal once and it opens the door for them to consistently ask for more personal and then you are potentially overwhelmed with work you don't have time for and shouldn't be doing in the first place. I also will not put up with people yelling at me so if somebody dares to try, I will stop that right away, and if it continues I will bring it up to somebody who can do something about it.
It may be a toxic environment, I was recently laid off from a law firm after 10 years, and not once have I ever experienced an attorney yelling and disrespecting staff in any way, quite the opposite. If it’s high turnover there is something definitely going on to cause this situation, possibly a toxic demanding, disrespectful environment. As far as dog sitting I would reiterate that you are not comfortable taking on this type of responsibility and if this was a requirement for the role, to get clarification on expectations, in the beginning disregard it until it’s brought up then explain away. Good luck.
From one to another an Admin Assistant typically will have a higher turnover rate in general. Promotions, other opportunities, etc. I wouldn't make that an end all "red flag" alone. Now the other things maybe making this a higher turnover than expected. You have to professionally decide if you want to listen to what others are saying or see it for yourself before you make a professional decision.
If HR is telling you that they yell that is a problem... If they are telling you they will ask you to dog sit for them the simple answer(s) if you don't want to is no or I can't have dogs where I live or I am not available for that. Remember your duties are written for a reason and "other duties as assigned" is to be within the scope of your job. I highly doubt dog sitting is within the scope.
How is the position coming along?
Keep your eyes open for new opportunities no job is worth the stress and disrespect
