What are the best data privacy certs to aim for? 4 year exp in cyber risk consulting. Want to move to a privacy related role outside the big 4. Should I go for the CDPSE or CIPP or CIPM?

CIPP will really give you the foundational privacy knowledge you will need as a privacy professional, stuff like core privacy principles and details of all privacy laws and key cases in the country of focus (US, EU, etc). It’s a pretty tough exam though, not something you can pass without studying unless you have lots of privacy experience. CIPM is more focused on how to manage a privacy program. Less technical privacy knowledge, more program management business focus. It’s an easier exam and will require less studying. From what I’ve seen, both exams are recognized in the industry about the same. Check the job description of the role(s) you’re looking at to see which ones are mentioned more.

I’m not familiar with CDPSE

helpful

CDPSE is ISACA’s play into the privacy field. IAPP is the main group here, though. CIPP and their portfolio is what I would start with.

I’m a new patent prosecution associate and unfortunately only just now realized that maybe prosecuting patents isn’t something I want to do long term. I loved copyright (and trademark) in law school, but I have loans to pay off. Should I stick it out in my current role to pay them off before I jump ship to a new practice area or will I be pigeonholed forever to patents if I stay here for 2-3 years?

I have an interview with Korn Ferry for an associate principal role and am curious about others’ experiences have been with work-life balance here. Also, I have an idea of what I should be compensated in this type of role, but any insights on how they pay compared to others would be helpful. Are you traveling during the pandemic or have client interactions been virtual? Lastly, if you are a consultant here, are you on billable hours? My current consulting role is not - so this would be new.

Early 30s M here. Used to be really good on stage until I got a consulting job out of college.

I love consulting and have financial safety doing what I do today but I sure do miss the adulation, applause and life-energy the stage brought me. It was just…so adrenaline inducing.

No, career pivot is not an option. Prepping myself for a mid-life crisis in a few years. Already off all kinds of social media because it hurts to see all the mediocre people getting famous (Sorry for the hubris).
