It honestly depends on your location and your experience. I’ve worked as a patient service representative for almost 8 years and make $20.67/hr. (This in the state of NH)
Hello 👋 😊 I would strongly advise you to negotiate your salary (always) companies almost always start at the lowest point of the budgeted salary band and hope the candidate accepts it. Know your worth based on your experience and skill sets, use that along with current market value for your role in order to calculate what your salary range should be. This will give you a more accurate range to negotiate and it will also give you solid ground to stand on. I currently make $19 and it's faaaaaar under what I should be making had I pushed for a fair wage from the beginning I likely would not be this underpaid, but I needed a job and was afraid to lose the opportunity so I settled. Lesson here is, always know your worth don't settle for less than you deserve because you will likely be locked into that wage for a very long time. If the company does not want to pay you a fair wage you are far better off looking for something else, because the company will work you to the bone without a second thought. Best wishes, push for the wage you deserve! 😃 (Telling you as I tell myself) Good luck 🤞
You could try to negotiate the salary, but like Community Health Worker said, you want to make sure that you are highlighting your experience that is going to be most valuable in this situation. Your admin experience will be helpful, but there's no guarantee that it will be enough for them to grant you more money. Never hurts to have the conversation though. Good luck!
I think the people in this thread are making some really good points, it might be that you don't bring it up now but wait until you've been a couple more months in the role and then you can make a case for yourself
I agree with this. Unfortunately those roles do not have high wages but you can always negotiate a raise after you get a little experience.
I’d check websites like Glassdoor & see what other companies are offering with your experience for this role. May be better to ask for more prior to accepting because I’ve experienced how hard it is to get a raise approved by HR even though my supervisor supports and applies for it. I should’ve done research and counter something reasonable but I was desperate to start working at the time.
That exactly what I did. They are going to try to fight for me getting 18.50$. Hopefully they will accept my offer.
I am a CHW in Oklahoma for the State Department of Health. I have the local hospitals, particularly the local cancer center reach out to me a great deal. I assist in guiding and training their Patient Access Reps. I believe the pay is similar.
I am not clear how your admin experience translates to direct value in this case. I would feel like case management and system navigation would be the two realms in which I would want experience drawn from.
I appreciate the reply. Thank you
Thank you all for the wonderful replies!
