Hi Everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. I am a design engineer with a degree in aerospace engineering. Unfortunately I got laid off from my dream job at Boeing and at least from what I am seeing the job market for design engineers has all but dried up. When I first graduated back in 2022 I had more luck then fresh out of school with no professional experience than I am right now. Is anyone else in a similar situation or noticing a similar trend?

The job market has been brutal lately, especially in aerospace and engineering. You're definitely not alone. Have you considered adjacent roles like systems engineering or even contract work? Sometimes pivoting a bit can open new doors, but I understand if you want to hold out for another dream job. Networking seems to be the most important thing these days

GE has a couple design roles. I think Ohio has some positions but you will have to move here. I think Collins Aerospace also did have some positions as well.

Better off looking towards the sector that makes things go whosh, then boom and less into the sector that hopes things go whosh and not boom...

That is the sad part of projecting the job market when getting a degree. With your experience you should be able to transition to a different engineering position. Good luck to you.

Yep. I’m having a similar experience in a location typically dominated by Boeing. I’ve been wanting to leave my current employer for 6 months (consumer products, not aero), but design roles are rare and competition is brutal. It seems any pivots are mid-senior roles that require years of experience in MEP system design or manufacturing. Good luck— I hope an aero contractor picks you up soon.

I've been a government attorney for nearly three years now and have worked in the same office/division since I passed the bar. I've yet to receive a promotion other than two cost of living increases (in sum, a pay increase of 6k over 3 years). I know this is meager, but I'm mostly ok with it, I just want to see some recognition. On the other hand, it's hard for me to imagine negotiating because (given my inexperience), I don't feel I'd be able to do better anywhere else. Any advice?

Has a partner ever come back and asked you why you spent so much time on certain things? Im a first year and this hasn’t happened to me at my firm and they tell us not to cut our own time, but my first firm (short stint, small firm) did this to me allll the time and made me feel guilty — so just curious if this has happened to anyone in big law.
