For big tech companies it would be a lot harder (not impossible) bc there are 100ppl apply for 1 role that could have been in the industry from anywhere 1-20yrs. But for landing interviews at smaller places it would be easier but it is a draining job.
Also look into contract to hire. I know a lot of ppl are doing that now for HR roles.
I transitioned from higher Ed to corporate! Had to take a contract role but worth it to me. I know many others who have done that as well. University recruitment is a popular transition role.
The biggest thing that will help is holding informational interviews to get to know people, culture, language, etc to best market yourself. Check out ThePivoter.com for free resources and tips to transition.
Look into becoming a consultant in the space, workday and workday partners like to have their higher education consultants with practical experience and that can help you move into that space. Also Anthology is a newer company and recently acquired blackboard so they are becoming a power player in the higher education space and growing their team a lot too
