Hot take: AI is demonic and anti human. It’s ROI for the externalized resources of water, energy and materials once factored in doesn’t nearly justify the marginal productivity gains. The human suffering from job loss is the point of it and it’s another way to kneecap the nuclear family and community by outsourcing human interaction to a Machine

Where they have a point:
∙ AI’s environmental costs (water, energy, hardware) are genuinely underdiscussed and worth scrutinizing
∙ Job displacement is real and the human cost deserves serious attention, not dismissal
∙ There are legitimate concerns about AI substituting for human connection in unhealthy ways
Where the reasoning breaks down:
∙ “The suffering is the point” is a conspiracy claim that requires evidence, not assertion. Most AI development is driven by profit motives, not malice toward workers
∙ The nuclear family framing smuggles in a culture-war assumption — technology affecting social structures isn’t automatically sinister
∙ “Demonic” is doing a lot of heavy lifting where an economic argument would be more persuasive
∙ The ROI argument is actually the strongest one here, but it gets buried under the more dramatic claims, which undermines credibility
The post mixes a legitimate critique (externalized costs, labor disruption) with unfalsifiable conspiratorial framing — which is a shame, because the underlying concerns deserve rigorous debate.

This reads like someone who is:
∙ Genuinely anxious about economic and social change, which is completely understandable
∙ Frustrated that these concerns feel dismissed by the mainstream tech conversation
∙ Using catastrophizing language (“demonic,” “the point is suffering”) that suggests the anxiety has outpaced the analysis
∙ The #happyfriday tag at the end is a telling detail — there’s some self-awareness that this is a rant, possibly even ironic
It’s the kind of post you write when you feel like no one is listening to the moderate version of your concern.

Or it’s like those are in the training data for the AI algorithms, so the AI is learning what we expect of it.

I agree that AI can be massively destructive and will have scary impacts on our world.

Demonic and anti human is … very aggressive, though.

This is oversimplifying. Some uses of AI (particularly chatbots and image generators for general consumer use) absolutely fall into your critique and we need to be more critical about the real costs (financial and environmental) and value we’re getting.

However, other uses of AI that are more around deeper insights using large amounts of data can be far more valuable and potentially worth the cost. I wouldn’t write off all AI in a blanket fashion.

AI is technology just like the internet. How we use it is what decides how evil it is.
Can we use it to speed up research, cure cancer, grow better crops, increase quality of living? Yes.

But will we? Hell no. We will let corporates and governments use it for profit at the cost of humanity. At some point we have to agree we let them do this to us.

Well we're using it for evil then so stfu clanker

The ROI is as strong as the crypto case right now. The level of continued capital where chips and data centres need a refresh every 3 years, along with the exorbitant energy and water consumed isn't being scrutinised. They're all chasing a "solid maybe" and it makes no business sense. This is what happens when there is too much money flowing in the markets. Irrational behaviour wins.

It's not obvious where the check and balance comes from. I'm not sure what the trigger is or if we'll see a crash at all, or a slow deflation, but the sheer amount invested indicates there will be many many more losers than winners. One thing is for sure: the public will pay the price like they always do. Private financial markets will collapse, energy prices go up, inflation and recession. Governments won't be able to do bail outs for the sums we're talking about, but we're all connected to the markets and we all go down.

I hope you’re right, as I’m in capital class now and it makes me more money than my job does. Shareholder value! (This is obviously facetious.)

You're right. Invisible evil minions of a super powerful evil overlord (also invisible) are definitely answering your ChatGPT prompts. If you ask really nicely, they'll take you to their leader for some testing and send you home with your own personal unicorn who will lead you to the pot at the end of the rainbow where you will find a healing potion for the nuclear family. Blessings on your journey.

So funny how they moved from saving to Earth to destroying it

It depends on your definition of demonic. Even outside of religion most people would agree that the supernatural is a thing and can have an effect on the world. To that end, having LLMs and other AI tools that are effectively black boxes in terms of reading feels like a very straightforward place for the demonic or supernatural to do some sus shit.

OP is right you are coping stfu clanker

Totally agree. People are starting to question “why do we even allow this to be built?”
