They pay for your time. Doesn’t matter what you’re doing during that time.

like

You charge $X /per hour or per day. Not per word written or pixel pushed or idea generated or problem solved. And while you’re waiting, you’re still using your time. You’re not working for someone else. You’re expected to be available.

Even if you are paid by the hour? Is it based on your scope like we are hiring you at 100% of your time for two weeks and 50% of your time for two weeks after? So even if you are doing nothing you bill? 🫣

From the FLSA: Time which an employee is required to be at work or allowed to work for his or her employer is hours worked. A person hired to do nothing or to do nothing but wait for something to do or something to happen is still working. The Supreme Court has stated that employees subject to the FLSA must be paid for all the time spent in "physical or mental exertion (whether burdensome or not) controlled or required by the employer and pursued necessarily and primarily for the benefit of the employer of his business."

Hours worked include all time during which an employee is required or allowed to perform any work for an employer, regardless of where the work is done, whether on the employer’s premises, at a designated work place, at home or at some other location.

Day rate. If you’re expected to be available to work, you charge.

I dont have anything recent but provided what I had from last yr in a legal writing class, it was not enough for them. I became licensed this May so I dont have an array of motions to pick from. Then they asked for my undergrad transcript, at this point, I am now annoyed They are not Biglaw. Are they going overboard

Started at a big firm in July with high hopes- in the career path I wanted and I would be joining with other new grads.
After onboarding, it’s as if my team forgets about us every day. The training is non existent, there doesn’t seem to be any initiative to invest in new hires, my manager scolds me for not knowing enough yet gives no direction. I don’t want to waste time (colleagues mentioned it doesn’t get much better from here). Do I embrace the suck or look for other opportunities?
