We're posting for both on our social channels but heavily in favor of pride month. We get Juneteenth off...which was a condition of me joining the company.
EM1 - I vowed to never work on MLK day since I started in this industry. I finally decided to not work at a company that didn't close for the day. I interviewed and said that. The CEO said he'll do me one better and close the shop for juneteenth as well.
My agency is actively figuring out how to properly celebrate Juneteenth, and I appreciate that. They’re trying, and to me, that’s enough. I love an effort!
Re: overshadowing, I think it’s really important to call a spade, a spade. If we’re celebrating pride month, cool. Let’s figure out how to celebrate “the month” without taking away from Juneteenth. At the very least, it’s lazy to combine the two.
If we’re celebrating Juneteenth, which is a specific day, why does that day, have to be shared with something else?
I don’t have any bias against pride month. However, we all know, when it comes to Black things, our things are often combined with other efforts and I’d like to see us move away from normalizing that. Especially at work.
“Black and Brown” is also a great example. Each community should be afforded their own resources, acknowledgments, and celebrations.
Yea my company recognized it in a blurb on our company site but, I think they honestly don’t know how to incorporate it. No one on the HR team is black.
Weird question format…. Why is pride “overshadowing” the problem here? Like seems like there’s some bias you wanna confirm idk 🤷🏾♀️
I haven't heard of anything going on here....
