I just asked a creative to include more pictures of Afro-Latinos in our hispanic messaging and she said "I tried to find pictures of videos that looked authentic but they didn't have the right look, it's a very specific look". So no black people in the ad cause this white passing lady needs to gate keep who looks latina enough. The blond, blue eyed women in the photos passed though... UGHH.

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

The years of experience are the same, but you have 3 designations (they have 0), you have 3 licenses (they have just 2), they have little to no experience with technical complex claims (you have hundreds), and you have 3 years in management (they have 0).

How long did it take you to receive your first promotion? I have 3 years of work experience, currently at my 3rd agency, and third associate position. Four people on my brand team have been promoted (across levels and departments, but none in PM). In a meeting we a client, we were looking at a stock image of a smiling Black man holding a baseball bat while wearing a hoodie. The client comments that it’s the wrong way to hold a bat. Cool. But, then follows up and says, “Also, he just looks aggressive. Like, this person would definitely attack me and my family.” I was shocked. But, apparently, I was the only one. Because everyone else on the call laughed. They were all white except for my partner who is Mexican. But, he still chuckled.

Just a quick reminder that what will ultimately save us is community. Working together. Supporting each other. Leveling up as a collective. Look out for opportunities to promote each, and in a generation we’ll get where we need to go.
