How did we convince ourselves that working 5 (or more) days a week, with maybe two off, is a fair trade—just to earn money we barely have time to enjoy? Especially for those of us without kids to provide for and no loans more loans pay off, what’s the point of grinding endlessly if we’re too exhausted or time-starved to actually live, travel, or experience life outside of work?

Especially considering how much productivity and efficiency have increased over the last 50 years. Technology served to make a few people rich but we got no reward for the increased productivity. We shouldn’t be working 40 hours a week when we’re four times as productive as we were when the 40 hour workweek was established as the standard.

Capitalism actually wants us to work 7 days a week. You can thank a union for your weekends and holidays.

Capitalism can suck it.

We didn’t get 2 days off a week until workers organized and demanded them

The 8 hour workday was also won by labor unions. And you’re right, law firms don’t typically respect those limits and we don’t make them

No point. Quitting next week exactly for this reason. No time to spend money.

I spent only 6 hours everyday (not including sleep time) with my family and animals I love, and over 9 hours (also my mental health) in the office with the partner I absolutely hate. So tired of it and hate it so much. I’m quitting this year and move to Europe to work in house. Can’t waste more time on this bs.

Like they said we didn’t convince ourselves, the system was built for exploitation. It’s absolute bullshit and I’d even be fine with 4-3 split because that alone would be a huge help

I feel like people accept this and someone who doesn’t want to abide by this is considered lazy. Grinds my gears.
I am planning to create a different path for myself.

Agreed!!!

🌟CAPITALISM 💫

No kidding. I worked in law for 45 years and although I loved it and still do, I only had 4 days a month to myself

Right! The money is great…but who cares if you don’t have time to spend it! And I don’t have kids who will spend it either.

My blowout shrinks so fast. I would like to use a flat iron to help, but I've never used one before. Would straightening it at 150-180° even do anything? I don't want heat damage, so I don't want to go above that.

I’ve slowly started drinking less and less. And the less I’m drinking the more I realize just how much of my time revolved around alcohol. From going to get it, to drinking it to fighting hangovers. Now I realize I need something to fill all that time with. Especially now that I’m not spending all day saturday and sunday deathly hungover. I go for walks and run errands…but in a shock to me…there’s still a lot of time left. How did you start spending your time once you stopped drinking?
