I landed my first job during uni with a Security+ certification. Nowadays I feel like we're moving away from the formal degree path and just looking at the individual's skills.
Certifications in my opinion are a good way to showcase those skills and also show you mean business by investing in yourself. Furthermore, a certificate like Security+ shows you have a good handle on fundamentals and you passing it shows the emphasis on Security worked for you.
Also, certifications might get you past HR, which might just be enough.
Career changer here. Degree in Business Management.
I was able to get into a cyber role with Sec+ and Net+. I didn’t have to start at a help desk or have previous knowledge just show I understood the concepts and could continue to learn.
