This is such a tough one, but the best piece of advice I can give is start the family when you want to have a family. We give so much of ourselves to our careers and should not be sacrificing our own desires, especially one so special. Only you will know if you can balance both. Is there an option to cut back a few hours at your job if needed?

I haven’t even dared ask about hours yet, but I’m wondering if I should just make the leap and sort out everything as I go. I have good rapport with my employer, and I feel they might give me leeway if it means I stay at the company.
It's difficult to do both for sure. I always feel like I'm being pulled different ways when it comes to work and my family. For me though, my family is the most important thing to me. My husband and I decided early on that we would prioritize family over work. We just had our first baby and i'm working now and he's 7 months. And honestly, we are trying to figure out a game plan to where I can stay home with him and our future kids! Work is important, yes but family is what life's all about.

Yes I completely agree. I try to keep telling myself that work is something I can always go back to, but there’s only a certain window of time that I can have children
You will figure it out in your own way. I thought I would really want both and would manage it fine. Now I’m here, actually I would prefer to let my career pause for a little bit whilst I focus on my family. It’s not forever and I’m still really keen to progress it once I can but just not yet. However, that’s me and everyone will have a different experience but my point is I wouldn’t worry about it too much right now because you will find your own way when the time comes

Honestly, I want both too — a meaningful career and a family. I don’t think you have to choose, but I do think it takes planning, support, and being okay with not doing everything at 100% all the time. Life comes in seasons, and it’s okay to shift focus when you need to. It’s hard, but it can be worth it.
