Own it and move on. Do better next time
Only thing you can do is accept what you cannot change (thanks AA). You gotta learn to let it go, even though your mind wants to ruminate on it. Everyone makes mistakes and nobody is perfect. Full stop.
Ugh, been there and done that - as have many others. Totally get beating yourself up, but Ascential 1, while terse, is right. Move forward with the knowledge you’ve just gained and use that to make better choices. If you have a mentor talk through it with them and get some perspective.
One thing I used to do — and don’t advise — is joke endlessly about it. I was so insecure that it was top of mind for everyone like it was for me, so I was attempting to beat them to it. My boss told me to stop, that I was only reminding people of something they’d already moved on from.
Just move on is the best advice. You handled it well. And everyone makes mistakes. And people move on and forget them. There's a pretty good chance other people are busy with their own business and aren't dwelling on whatever you did. So just put it out of your mind and move on.
say urself that u r lovable human being whose attractiveness and value increased since you incorporated this learning
When you say “notorious” that you made a mistake - notorious with you, your team, your peers?
9/10 something else has come up and people’s attention has shifted.
Be gentle with yourself. When your critical voice pops interrupt the thought pattern with a reminder that it making mistakes is normal, it was minimal and fixable.
Thank you to all who responded! Your comments gave me a little piece of mind, and you were right!!
I’ve made some critical mistakes and beat myself up about it. The sting does fade with time, and always there is the valuable lesson. We wouldn’t be overachievers if we didn’t shoot too high sometimes.
