How do you handle it when a recruiter asks what other companies you're talking to? It always catches me off guard and I'm not sure what the best approach is. Do you give specifics or keep it generic?

Just say you can’t give company names but generally you are looking into these “types” of companies… for example, “I’m interested in looking into banking, private equity, and wealth mgt firms. “.

I keep it vague every time. "I'm in conversations with a few companies" and leave it at that. They're trying to gauge urgency and competition, not actually verify where you're interviewing. There's zero upside to being specific.

Even if I’m not in talks with other companies, I say I am. “I am currently in early-stage discussions with a few places. However, I’m most interested and excited about this opportunity.” I wouldn’t go into detail unless there was a good reason to.

I tell them. I don’t see the issue with transparency here. I’ve had a recruiter try to pitch an opportunity to me that I already have ongoing discussion on with that company. They seem to respect the honesty and it doesn’t come across later as me going around them.

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.
