The annual fee is worth it for the first year just to get the sign up bonus at SPG. Since you can link accounts and transfer the points it is good to get both. Hard to say what happens post merger, so might be worth getting the signup bonus before they combine or scrap credit card partners.
Why not both?
True. Forgot to mention the crossover bonus with SPG and Delta, but not sure that's based on CC spend. As far as I know, it's based on hotel spend. Also note that SPG only requires 50 nights or 25 stays for Platinum (25/10 for Gold), while Marriott requires 75 nights (50 for Gold). That alone is a major factor as to why I'm sticking with the SPG program while I can.
EY1. I looked at the Morgan Stanley platinum card but I earn better points on my. Gold card. 5 for travel 2 for groceries gas and dining 1 for everything else. The ms plat is 5 for travel and 1 for everything else. Unless they just changed it. I'd rather have the platinum as it would effectively be free. Though I'd have to learn a new number as I have had an amex for 20+ years
EY2- I hear ya. 2 points per would be nice. But a free card is nice too.
30K SPG (current offer) = 90K Marriott... Marriott offers 80K.
Annual benefits:
- Marriott gives you 15 nights credit toward status, another credit for each 3K you spend. One free night certificate, too. Guaranteed Silver level. 5 points (=1.6 SPG points) for stays at Marriott or SPG
- SPG gives you 5 nights and 2 stays credit toward status. 2 extra points per $ when you stay at SPG or Marriot
DD1, thx for the comparison. Without an annual free night, spg Amex doesn’t seem to justify $95 annul fee.
A1 good point, especially when fee is waived for 1st year
Wife and I spend six figures on credit cards. Used to do Marriott card to try and get lifetime platinum faster but for us, Delta Miles are worth more. Every time I’ve redeemed miles it’s in a shit room and they weren’t willing to upgrade. We have Morgan Stanley’s plat Amex now
If I had to choose SPG or Marriott card. Marriott all the way.
Also remember that Marriott card falls under 5/24. The Biz Marriott does not, however.
Both...
5/24?
