Everyone you interviewed with is younger than you and has less experience than you, but the recruiter says, “The team loved meeting with you and they think your book is great, however you’re just not the right fit for this team, so they are going to keep looking. We totally want to keep in touch with you, as we will have more opportunities coming up in the next month or so.” Then you never hear from them again.
This actually happened to me when I interviewed at both FaceBook and Google. It was like they were reading from the same script. So much for diversity.
That response says nothing about age and wouldn't hold up in court. Still going on a hunch with this.
Another SV tech company I worked at was interviewing an over 40yr lady for a design role. One of the young, female, millennial designers who interviewed her, came back and said, “I feel like I would be working with my mother,” and “I can’t see myself eating lunch with her.”
This was actually said to the managers who were all over 40yrs old. They told her that it doesn’t matter and then hired the lady. The young designer was never disciplined for her disgusting comments.
Now imagine the same thing being said in regards to race or gender. She would have been fired. All “isms” need to be treated the same way!
What company was it?
"Thank you. You have amazing experience. But not what we’re looking for.”
“You’re so qualified we’re afraid you’ll get bored in a couple of months"
A wise place will not say/do anything to let you know, otherwise they could get sued. All you will ever have is a very likely hunch. Sorry, it sucks and I’m right there with you.
Over-qualified, not a good cultural fit, too expensive, you’d be bored here, the team is re-thinking the role
“Your too experienced”
They wanted someone “hipper"
