HomeAdvisor.com I have 6 rentals. I make sure I buy properties that are not 50 year old :)
I live in the mid west. My renters are mostly handy. I rent for a few dollars below market and my renters appreciate that and fix the small stuff themselves- and they take pride in doing so. I’m Indian and don’t know a screw from a bolt so it works out well.
There is some truth to it. Just because we (Indians) have all kinds of labour (notice the correct spelling) so cheaply available, there is no incentive for us to learn any of those trades or take up DIY projects.
I also own/manage in the Midwest. I haven’t found it to be difficult to handle maintenance requests. My tenants are pretty handy like CAD1 said. I’m also pretty good at basic electricity, plumbing, etc. Credit to my dad! Try to find locals that can become your go to handy people. I have 2 guys in my area that I can easily text for things that are either outside my experience or things I don’t have time to fix. Treat them well and you’ll be fine!
