It’s nice but I don’t know if it would ever be a deciding factor for me. One of the least exciting companies I worked tried the whole ping pong and beer and “work hard play hard” mentality. Working there felt like a lifestyle, but the actual tech was awful. I’d much rather buy my own coffee and sit in a grey cubical farm if the tech is good and my coworkers are brilliant
Idgaf, it’s all Kool-Aid that has nothing to do with the company. I’ve interviewed places that showcase their slides, building themes like medieval castle, etc.
That’s great, but how much are you paying me and what would I be doing? The cynic in me says the aesthetics are just a mask to trick you to stay longer.
I think it depends… if the company designs hardware and they can’t design a functional office that reflects their design language, I may have second thoughts. But generally I don’t care as much about aesthetic, mostly function and if it’s conducive to collaboration and productivity
I think design is important because I notice a difference in my productivity between a cubicle farm and a more personalized, collaborative workspace. I also kind of hate internal branding though? Like, I know where I work, please stop trying to make me drink the kool-aid man.
I'm very sensitive to my environment so if the place is a sh*thole unless the job is my dream role then I will pass on it. But as long as that's not the case I'm not shopping for the nicest space.
I do like when things are convenient, such as when people and coffee are accessible, for starters. But beyond that? It really doesn't matter to me that much. Some extras make focusing more difficult, and at the end of the day I want to get my work done and go home, not spend more time at work no matter how nice it might look.
The workplace should not be depressing, but also should not be stupid.
