How worried should I be about low hours in the months leading up to mat leave in BigLaw? My firm’s policy expressly says it’s ok for hours to taper two weeks before leave, but all my bigger cases have recently settled or are on hold for other reasons. I was already somewhat low on hours in May and this month is looking even slower. I’m trying to pick up short term assignments but it’s still only enough to bill like 20 hrs a week. Just looking for a gut check on how worried I should be.

That’s a dumb policy. I ended up with pregnancy complications and had an emergency delivery at 35 weeks. Whoever designed the policy has clearly never been pregnant. Rant over, lol.

Doesn’t it matter more what annually your hours are averaging? My first mat leave I think I billed like 80 hours my final month (and no I didn’t hit target by far but still had decent hours). Why would the firm care about a few slow months if otherwise hours are fine?

Are you on track based on your prorated billable hours? Generally I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but perhaps ask a trusted mentor about it. I would honestly just enjoy the slow time while you have it! It’s one less thing to stress over as you’re getting ready to have a baby!

Hi all! I've got an SEO question I'm hoping someone can help with:
How do you choose keywords to target in a blog when you're writing a blog that appears on multiple country specific versions of a given website? Do you use a mix of keywords from each region/country in one blog, or create different versions of the same blog with slight keyword differences based on the country?
Feel free to DM me if you want! thanks in advance from an entry level content marketer. :)

Incoming junior-level consultant wants to know what is “billable hour”.
Once in a while I see discussions around billable hours, but I don’t know how that works. After googling, it appears to me that billable hour only matters to me if my salary is paid by hours. Since I will receive a fixed annual salary, does this mean that I don’t need to worry about the concept of billable hours?
A related questions: generally speaking, is the bonus related to the hours that I worked?
Thanks!

Hello Fishies!

Anyone have insights on how much a consultant would run for DEI?

Not sure if consultants would charge on an hourly, per meeting, per "experience" basis.

Would greatly appreciate any information!
