Bain & Company Can someone recommend a good starting point on how to go around solving case interviews? What frameworks should I follow? I am kinda new to case interview and want to develop skills to solve them. Any books, online sources would be really appreciable. people are not good at ending zoom calls because we’re all staggering thru a yearlong depression and hate zoom calls
I think it’s a unique psychological situation we’re not well built for, it’s in between a phone call and an in person meeting. With a phone call the tone of the conversation is where the emphasis is made to cycle to closing the conversation where as in person you can start getting up and closing notebook / laptop etc. I think video conferencing is an unusual circumstance for most people in terms of natural tendencies (even though we’ve all been doing it for over a year now) in that you don’t really leave where you are physically (like on a phone call), but you also still feel like you’re in person
Yes! You are still sitting in the same spot and essentially making eye contact! It feels so unnatural like you’re saying bye but still going to be sitting right next to each other. What a great comment
Thank you for your service lol it is me I am terrible at ending the meeting. We all have different skills okay 😅😅
What we lack in social skills we make up for in humor 🙃
If the awkward silence goes on for more than a few seconds I’ll throw out a “thank guys, I need to jump on my next call.”...sometimes it’s true🤣
Same lol
What's helped is wrapping up with a to-do list/recap of everything and breaking from there after everyone is aligned. It's felt like a solid end most of the time
We do this too, but then it's still an awkward end and makes my supervisor go through the to-do list again!
Yes! I noticed this too! But it’s also the same with phone calls. Some people just don’t know how to get off the phone and they keep dragging it out saying goodbye in multiple ways when you just want to hang up already
As a Texan Im giving you the gift of: “let me let y’all go” or “I’m gonna let yall go” ... aka exit the conversation by giving them time away from *you*
I worked for a CFO who, when he was tired of listening, would put his palms on the table, look around and say “okay, what else?” The smart people in the room knew there should be nothing else because the CFO is no longer listening. So maybe a Zoom version of “what else?”
I have a list of phrases that I try. One that does work for me when things get quiet or awkward is "well I don't want to keep you any longer" or "ill give you some of your time back" etc. Still on you but hey...at least precious working moments aren't wasted.
Can we swap lists? 😂
Judgy there?
Not at all. Just exasperated.
idk, I love ending zoom calls - that End Meeting for All button feels so gooooood
Ok that’s where I struggle. I’m always fumbling to click end so I’m here saying bye but last one to exit out of my own screen 🤦🏻♀️😂
I like to try to end them half way through the conversation when there’s clearly more to be said, just to see people’s reactions. My CD finds it hilarious.
The meeting host/lead needs to moderate if you aren’t the meeting host you can and should leave whenever you want... especially when the conversation isn’t relevant or awkward
Agreed, nothing worse then wasted minutes!
Completely agree.
Coz they’re not lawyers on a non-chargeable call? On those calls, we get 10 minute warnings, 5 minute warnings and usually the call ends (however abruptly) 1-5 minutes after the stipulated time (if it goes over at all)
