I would not suggest doing that right now due to the economy. If you are in a slower practice at the moment (e.g. corporate) then it is a great time to plan a 2-3 week vacation where you can arrange for coverage. That might satisfy enough of the travel bug until you want to take more concentrated time off between jobs before going in-house (after getting that in-house offer). Try to plan the trip somewhere (or at least pitch it as) you will have limited internet access and arrange for full coverage on matters.
Why don’t you take true vacations? No one willing to cover for you?
Not sure what firm you’re at but I’m at one of K&E/V&E/LW and have taken many vacations and am not a junior. You just have to set boundaries when you’re away and stick with it. You’ve put in the legwork to arrange coverage and the world is not on your shoulders. I’m sure you pick up the slack when others are on vacation and they need to return the favor.

Recruiter here. Will be hard (not impossible) to return to Big Law. Big law doesn’t react well to this just like they don’t love hiring associates who went in house early and want to come back. If you swim down market and are ok with a pay cut, then go for it. Although the current economy does have me worried.
