I am being asked to train a new staff member which is going to involve taking on a fair amount of extra work on top of my current responsibilities. I have been asking for a raise for a while and I keep getting the runaround. I feel like this is a good time to ask again since I have been identified as someone who can be trusted with training someone. Is that a good way to frame it? Anyone have luck getting a raise after being given more responsibilities?

If not a raise ask for Preceptor pay..usually $1-$3 per hour when training. Good luck.

I precepted dozens of nurses and CNAs. Never got preceptor pay. "Not in the budget".

I would include all the responsibilities in your pitch not just the training part. Because unfortunately I think training has turned into an expectation of anyone in a role, and a lot of places no longer give you respect or a raise for training your peers.

I feel under qualified at work but I also don’t know how much of it is in my head or in reality. I head a team and they seem to be happy… but I’m also personally not satisfied what we’re delivering is enough… so I have this weird mixed feeling of the stuff we’re doing not really being that stretching, but at the same time I feel out of my depth. I really don’t know what to do and whether to hold on in the hope I’ll learn something or go back to a lower grade and a more comfortable life.

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!

Hi Fellow Fishies,

I am reaching out because I was recently contacted to interview for Cigna Provider Engagement Development Program. I wanted to see if I could connect with anyone on here that I can help give a breakdown of what this program entails, day-to-day, and WLB. Any tips on the interview and interview process for anyone working in this position? I would be truly grateful for any help or information that can be provided!

How would you handle not getting a lunch break when you are a salaried employee treating patients for 40 hours a week? I don’t get documentation time either, but all notes are to be completed the same day. Some of us have reached out to HR and we’re told to discuss it with the regional director, but the regional director says we’d have to come in early or leave late to block out a lunch break. My commute is an hour each way, so I’d prefer not to make my day any longer. Advice?
