What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

Have you tried talking with your manager about feeling under qualified and whether they share any of the same sentiment/offer you more training? Feeling a bit out of your depth is normal initially, and it's good - it means you're being challenged and growing! . Just make sure you lean on those around you who can support your growth/point you in the right direction early (don't stay quiet and fail) like managers, peers, mentors. Also, a good manager will be good at giving you honest feedback - ask them what they think of you, your performance, why they chose you you for the role, etc. That should validate whether or not its in your head or not.
Re you feeling like your team aren't delivering enough, I'd also consult your manager to see whether they feel your area is meeting expectations. If they do not feel your team is meeting expectations, get their feedback on what they expect and use that to frame some new/more ambitious goals with your team.
If they do feel your team is performing fine, get really clear on why/what areas you feel your team could work on, get your managers endorsement and then have a meeting with your team that you'd like to introduce some new goals - I'd ask what motivates them/makes them happy at work and weave that in as well. Remember that anything new needs to have your team buy in - if you don't take them on the journey, if they don't own the goal or they don't feel like it's important it won't happen.
Maybe try to set up informational calls with your seniors and peers at your level to get some guidance on how to approach the gaps you are feeling! Try to ask them what trainings they went through that helped them to develop. Also, ask the previous person in your current role what they did to achieve in depth results. You can also initiate an anonymous suggestions ballot for the staff to get detailed feedback on where you can improve without putting anyone on the spot. Leadership is hard but a lot of young people are becoming efficient leaders with not so much experience just due to high confidence in themselves and hands on learning attitude! You got this!
Thank you for this advice. I’m older than you might assume… but also weirdly still feel like a total amateur… 17 years in government but because I’ve moved around a lot, I don’t feel particularly expert in the what or the how…
I’m interested to see what people say here. I feel the same way. Is it just “Imposter Syndrome” or a justified lack of confidence because I don’t feel we are excelling ?
I have been taking online classes to make sure I’m up to date with what’s needed for my role. On LinkedIn and Coursera in google. Take assessment text to see what type of manager style you are and recognize where you need to improve. Best of 🍀
Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Take the initiative to learn the skill set you feel you are missing. Only you can improve you
