I am looking to change careers to insurance. What is the best way or what are the best claims jobs to apply for with no experience? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Feel like an easy one to jump into would be a liability claims representative at some of the larger legacy carriers - Allstate, Geico, Progressive - depending on if remote/ your geo location.

Leverage customer service skills, critical thinking, time management skills, etc on a resume or interview

Thank you!

Just because you never held a position in insurance does not mean you do not possess the qualification needed to succeed in that industry. For auto and home property, experience as an auto mechanic or in homebuilding and construction would be an asset. I came to casualty claims after a decade in newspaper journalism. My skills of interviewing, researching, writing, investigating, problem-solving, meeting deadlines, organization, etc. easily transferred over to my role in casualty.

Thank you so much!

I’ve been an onboarding supervisor with Progressive for 6 years. You’d likely join a team like mine. Our training is focused to turn someone without any prior background in insurance into a competent, accurate, and efficient adjuster over 4 months. I myself had no idea what collision coverage was when I joined Progressive, so you’ll be more than fine. Just know how to multitask on a computer using different software systems, have decent communication skills, be coachable, consistent, and curious and you’ll be a-okay. Good luck!

I'd definitely start looking for entry-level roles like Claims Assistant or Claims Representative. These positions usually don’t require prior experience and most companies will offer on-the-job training. Look for companies that offer training programs or have strong support for career growth in the insurance industry, like Liberty Mutual (where I started my career).

Awesome. Thank you so much!!! Looking into this now.

Try USAA. They are a great company and have great training, usually in a classroom environment.

Their benefits are very generous, and they serve the military families.

Best to you!
