When that little bundle of joy comes the last thing you will want to do is work one a day week. They offer 6 months for a reason and they can’t fire you for being on maternity leave. Take the full 6 months and enjoy every second. It goes fast and you’ll want the time for yourself and to spend time with your baby. The work, your team, and coworkers will all be there when you get back. Congrats! It’s the best! 😀
A lot of people go on maternity leave. I’ve never been on a team with someone who worked one day a week. I’ve worked with countless women who went on mat leave and no one ever forgot them. If anything, we were happy for them and then excited when they came back if they are good to work with. 6 months is not that long in the grand scheme of things
There literally is no "working one day a week" while you are on FMLA (assuming you are in the US).
Speaking as someone who took 8 months (took my full paid leave and a few additional months unpaid), I guarantee they won’t “forget you” and you won’t fall behind. If 6 months is the policy, then there are plenty of others taking that time too. If you are really concerned, maintain a good relationship with your coworkers, try to stay loosely connected with them during your leave (nothing crazy, just some occasional texts and maybe a phone call with your boss as you get closer to your leave ending). But I wouldn’t be concerned about getting fired during your leave unless the company is really not doing well and has to lay off a large number of people.
What the others said and also 6 months is amazing. Please enjoy it.
