At my job we have bi-weekly engineering meetings. I am basically the head of that, I keep a To-Do list that has all the current projects on there as well as date assigned, due date, who assigned the project, and who is currently working on the project. We discuss these issues as a group but then for the two weeks in between we work on our part. We help eachother and give feedback on issues we're having. You need something to unify the team like that otherwise it's chaos.
You pretty much typed out exactly what I do as part of my job
Personally, I love working with other people and bouncing ideas off of them. It can be really helpful to get another perspective on a problem, or to see how someone else would tackle a project. I think it's definitely worth trying to have more conversations with your coworkers about their projects, and see if you can collaborate on anything.
Yes, this is normal. People work differently and some people are more comfortable working on their own. It can be helpful to talk with others about your projects, but it's not always necessary.
