I think we need a little more information. Maybe you started at $5 an hour more than him … and he still makes less per hour than you even with a $3 raise.
I don’t care about the raise. I care about the total compensation. If you have equal experience and have performed the same for the past year and his total comp is more than 5% above yours… and it pisses you off then yes. Start looking.l for another job. But don’t necessarily leave the trade … leave the current employer.
Unfortunately, high raises are usually a popularity contest and not actually given to those that contribute the most or have been there the longest.
